CFL Power Factor

It is true that CFL light bulbs have a lower power factor (50% - 75%) than incandescent light bulbs (100%). Adversaries of CFL bulbs claim that this reduced power factor negates the CFL bulbs electricity savings. Although power factor can be an issue for an electricity suppliers' distribution system, the potential losses are insignificant compared to the 75% reduction in Real Power needed to produce the same amount of light.
